Molding Compound That Delivers High Performance in Variety of Lighting Applications Introduced by Evonik Cyro

Las Vegas, USA — May 12, 2010

At LightFair International 2010, Evonik Cyro, LLC, (booth #2875) introduces ACRYMID® TT50, a high grade poly(methyl methacrylimide) (PMMI) molding compound that has been developed to meet the demands of high-temperature lighting applications, including those with high power LEDs and Xenon lamps. Featuring a 150º C Vicat* softening temperature, excellent transmission and optical clarity, ACRYMID® TT50 can be used in a variety of applications, including LED lenses and lens covers, high lumen signage, fiber optics, fresnel lenses, light engines and short focal length optical designs.

Additionally, ACRYMID® TT50, previously ACRYMID® 813, is listed by the Automotive Manufacturers Equipment Compliance Agency (AMECA). The listing and overall performance of ACRYMID® TT50 make the molding compound well suited for automotive LED light engines and reflex lens designs.

ACRYMID® TT50 achieves high performance because it was developed using proprietary Evonik chemistry yielding an acrylic molecule with high temperature resistance and low heat-age discoloration properties. Additionally, it has a high heat deflection temperature under load of 140 C and high light transmission of 91%. Durable, the molding compound has strength, rigidity and excellent weather resistance characteristics.

The molding compound can be processed on injection molding machines with standard 3-zone general purpose screws for thermoplastics. ACRYMID® TT50 is supplied in pellets of uniform size in aluminum-laminated 25 kg polyethylene bags.
